Launched in 2016 as part of the Johnnie Walker Blenders’ Batch series, their Red Rye Finish expression has been finished in casks that previously held rye whiskey. The Blenders’ Batch series will continue with two new expressions in the coming years…
A blend of malt and grain whiskies, including now-closed Port Dundas, matured in first-fill american oak bourbon casks and then finished in rye casks.
Tasting Note
The Finish: A fairly spicy finish with this one. But it doesn’t get overwhelming because its balanced out by fruit and cocoa notes.
Drink It Like This: This whisky does phenomenally in a highball, with a ginger ale and a slice of range to make its citrus undertones pop. A great tropical take on it is also loading it up with cranberry juice and ice.
Pair It With: You could go two routes–pair it with oysters, or let the sweeter notes reign with a creamy dessert.
