Like the hardy ptarmigan or the snow grouse as it is known in the Scottish Highlands, this Scotch is perfectly at home in severely cold conditions. Try it neat after it has been exposed to a short spell in the Arctic conditions of your freezer.
The Famous Grouse
Serve a measure of The Famous Grouse in a large tumbler. Add water to taste.
The Black Grouse
A timely innovation from Famous Grouse – this blend is based on peated Islay malts, and promises ‘reassuring smoothness with aromatic, peaty flavours’.
Tasting Notes
Quite simply, it’s a cool taste explosion that should be served “Seriously Chilled” straight from the freezer. The Snow Grouse is matured in oak casks before being Smoothchill Filtered. This creates a delicate and vanilla sweet whisky that delivers a delicious taste.
The Famous Grouse:
Nose: A crisp, light nose offering up notes of toffee apples, hints of dried flowers and biscuity barley.
Palate: Balanced, biscuit-laden palate with a core of thick, creamy malt. Just a hint of spice and the vaguest whisper of smoke really bring a great deal of complexity.
Finish: A slightly sweet, malty finish.
Overall: A very malty, biscuity blend. It’s easy to see why this is so popular in Scotland!
The Black Grouse:
Nose: Medium, quite smoky. Solid peat note, rummy sweetness, touch of dry wood.
Palate: Medium, balanced. Peat smoke, caramel, spice.
Finish: Long, slightly peaty.
